After the morning test runs, it is time for the actual Bangalow Billycart Derby races down the hill of Byron Street with homemade billycarts.
Prizes are given for all manner of race challenges: local celebrities, juniors, parent and child, schools and novelty carts – the races run throughout the day.
With bands playing, grand parades, and food carts, the Bangalow Billycart Derby celebrates community, inventiveness, friendliness and good spirit and is an unforgettable and much-loved annual event. Locals from the neighbouring communities flock to view the festivities, and the little town is packed by the thousands.
